What a busy week it’s been: the school term has started so we’ve welcomed back some of our regular mums who pop in before or after the school run, and university students are starting to return too. Plus, it was Labor Day on Monday – the US holiday when people love to mark the end of the summer with one last cook out. We marked the day by putting our US-style barbeque hot dogs on the menu as a special, and we were inundated by people coming in to try them. Our hot dogs come with Mary’s famous barbeque beans. We may be biased, but we love them, and you tell us you do too. It’s one of many recipes Mary has worked on through the decades, and we hope it gives you a taste of authentic US home cooking. Other recipes that share our US roots include Mary’s nachos, cheesy soups and her white chicken chilli, which she first tasted in a friend’s house in Michigan a couple of decades ago and loved so much she brought the recipe home. US cooking is characterised by big flavours, generosity and more of a sweet tooth than you find here in the UK. Mary holds her hands up to loving the sweet stuff: our range of cakes are testament to that. Over the coming weeks and months we will share a bit more about US cooking, including some of Mary’s treasured recipes for you to try at home. Watch this space!
